Overview

Our home has 4 bedrooms, 3 full bathrooms, a patio overlooking old growth forest, a designer kitchen with open plan living room, a great games room and at over 2000sq feet can easily accommodate two families without them tripping over each other. The upstairs kitchen and dining area connect to a lovely conversation/chill-out area. The patios are private and from the deck off the kitchen you can meet our resident hummingbird (Hermione). Downstairs outside of the games room, just past the pool table is the hot tub. Perfect for a relaxing soak, soaking in the nature you are surrounded by and feeling completely at ease. We do have neighbours, but not that you would notice. We have a green belt on one side and an empty wooded lot on another. We have a small creek that runs near the house as well as woods surrounding the back of the house. Its private enough that you don’t ever feel over looked, a quick 7-10 minute walk to a beach or 10 minute drive to Sechelt. We call it our Tuwanek Retreat and we believe you will find it just that, a Retreat.

Family Friendly

Our cabin is designed with families in mind. We have kids board games, bean bag toss, croquet, badminton, booster seat, play pen/portable sleeping cot/crib, and a baby gate for top of the stairs and all our blinds are cordless. We even have a few bath toys for the kids to enjoy in the tub. Plastic dishes are there for your use as well. Lots of places to explore around the area for families. Porpoise Bay has a great playground and sandy beach to explore, its only a 5 minute drive away. In Sechelt there is a lovely little playground (with a great coffee shop close by), library, Aquatic Centre and tons of hikes to explore in the area.

Allergen Free

All of our bedrooms are equipped with all the bedding you need and at the Tuwanek Retreat we choose to only use a high quality synthetic fiber, as 75% of the family are allergic to down feathers. All linens and towels are washed in Rockin’ Green Detergent to ensure those with sensitive skin have a fantastic and restful stay.

Kitchen and Dining

We love to cook and think our kitchen reflects that. Good quality pots and pans, baking trays, small food processor, waffle maker, coffee grinder, espresso maker, coffee pot (with permanent filter) and even an Instant Pot!. We have the necessities at the cabin for our guests (olive oil, balsamic vinegar, salt pepper and few other spices as well). The table converts easily to accommodate 8 people, by opening the table and flipping over the leaf.

Bedrooms

There are 4 bedrooms and 3 full bathrooms located in the house. The master ensuite has a lovely rain shower and heated floor whilst the other two bathrooms both have bath tubs with integrated showers. For more sleeping space the office has a new for 2019 double and twin bunkbed, so up to 3 can sleep in here – but only kids over 6 in the top bunk please! All bedrooms (including the office / 4th bedroom) have cordless blackout blinds that actually really work, so your little ones will hopefully not be up at 5 am every day on vacation (been there, done that – not restful).

Work hard

Fancy a working holiday? A writer looking for a place to write? Kids have a bit of summer homework to do? The office not only doubles as a 4th bedroom, but is a fully equipped mobile office. The desk sits looking out of a well-lit window and the office features a comfortable supportive chair, external monitor, a mouse and a keyboard; the fibre optics based internet is blazing fast and is great for Skype so clients need never know you are away!

Play harder

With a pool table, electronic darts board, big screen TV, Xbox One and Nintendo Wii with 4 controllers the games rooms is a great way to spend a family night; its definitely not a man-cave though with big windows, a patio door that leads to the hot-tub and fire pit. We don’t have cable, but there is Netflix and you can rent movies via the Xbox or plug your own movie collection in on a USB drive. For music there a Big Jambox to play music, wirelessly or wired, and you can bring it wherever in the house you need with its surprisingly full sound and all day battery.

Hot tub

Perfect place to relax after biking the trails, canoeing, beachcombing or chasing kids all day. Feel free to have a drink in there (just use the plastic please). At night enjoy the quiet of the surrounding area with just the sounds of the small stream running through the property, the glow of the stars and let the jets soak away your tired muscles.

Patio

Enjoy a relaxing seat on the conversation set on the elevated deck as Ron and Hermione, the resident hummingbirds, will often join you to enjoy the view of the old growth forest. There is also a BBQ for outdoor cooking and a full sized cooler for guests use; the BBQ has a full 25lb propane tank but is portable and can be used by guests for day trips.

Watersports

Unfortunately we have not been able to gain insurance for our guests to use our canoes or kayaks. There is Pedal and Paddles close by where you can rent SUP’s. double kayaks and they also do tours of the area.

Pet Friendly

We know that your furry family member is important to you. If you would like to bring your fur baby please ask us when you contact us. Depending on the animal cleaning costs will be added in. We will have certain rules regarding your pet as the cabin prides itself on catering to allergy sensitive individuals.
